Greetings and blessings to you all. In this world of deception, we are still mandated to share the truth to others. Satan has not changed his strategy of deceit since his first encounter with Eve in the garden. Recall that Jesus came into the world “to bear witness to the truth” (John 18:37) and the world rejected Him and scoffed at Him. Jesus said, “everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Jesus came to bear witness to the truth-not a vague, obscure concept, open to one’s own personal interpretation of what truth is. He came to bear witness to God’s truth, the objective truth. But just like Jesus had to deal with scoffers we have too also. Upon research, Proverbs 21:24 describes the scoffer as proud and haughty. They are aggressively dogmatic believing they are always right and shutting themselves off from reason. Proverbs 9:8 warns that if you attempt to correct a scoffer they will react with hatred or insult you and because of their rigid minds seeking to reason with them is often considered a waste of effort. So, since we have deception and the scoffers and the haters interacting with them every day; when the enemy chisels away at the truth, revealing the ever-growing fracture of deceit, what are the righteous to do? How are we as followers of Christ respond to them? Are we to ignore them? Are we to get into heated arguments with them? Do we pretend we are immune from the peril and rush to swim in the streams of the world, thinking we will never be soiled only to end up drowning in the rushing waters of compromise? Some of the following may help 1) keep emotions in check/avoid returning insults for insults 2) try to reflect Christ-like character 3) try to stay on topic/clarifying words- statements 4) allow the Holy Spirit to lead you-remember is not about you,,so die to yourself 5) the goal is not winning the disagreement but to gain a nice relationship without compromising “the Truth.” The very concept of The Truth elicits severe mockery in favor of lies and half-truths proclaiming ‘autonomy’. Christians do we love God’s truth enough to proclaim it when necessary?
