Greetings and blessings to all of you. It is Father’s Day in America. It is a day set aside to honor those who are biological fathers, step fathers, and mentors acting as Fathers. Why are Fathers important? Research has shown us that “Western society has relegated men to the trash heap. They have declared masculinity itself toxic. The culture is engaged in an all-out assault against distinctly masculine qualities. Assertiveness is presumed to be arrogance; independence is mistaken for selfishness. Strength and courage are taken as aggression and leadership is described as heavy-handed dominance.” In order to adopt more effeminate characteristics, the culture wants males to abandon his manly courage, toughness, strength and leadership abilities. And because the culture say man/woman are just social construct instead of biology, the children are left to grow up without any strong protective father figures, and it eliminates the masculine role models’ young boys and girls need. How sad! In Eph.6:4 says, “fathers do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” He can only do that if (one) he has not abandoned them and (two); he spends time with them and/ or the family and (three)if he understands Proverbs 1-4, “ Hear O sons the instruction of a father and give attention that you may gain understanding, for I give you sound teaching; do not abandon my instruction….let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live.” A father must instruct his children by acquiring wisdom and understanding. He needs to read the bible to obtain discernment so he could be biblically minded and faithful thereby replacing his bent toward foolishness. Most men who are not Godly or at least “good men” grope their way through life relying on his own instincts and prejudices without a sound understanding of Scripture. A father is a key instrument in a child’s spiritual growth and instruction; being an example of godliness with mercy, love and grace during those turbulent years of adolescent. Since all children enter the world as sinners lacking any native ability to restrain their sinful nature; God wanted the parents (the father) to be the dominant force and influence in shaping a child’s worldview and behavior. Fathers you are called to teach your child to love the Lord with their whole being.
