Greetings and blessings to all of you. Today is Mother’s Day. This day had in its early roots in the late eighteenth century; initiated by Ann Reeves Jarvis to honor the sacrifices mothers made for their children; and to honor her mother’s wish to memorialize mothers for all their contributions to society. In 1914 Pres. Wilson signed a Congressional Resolution designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. It really goes without saying that there can be no great men and women without great mothers. The Bible is full of stories of women of God who contributed to making this world a better place in which to live and who helped to advance the Kingdom of God. Some are:

Ruth…who put God first and as a result became the ancestress of King David

Deborah…who was one of the judges of Israel

Hannah…who dedicated her child Prophet Samuel to the Lord.

Esther…who took her life in her hands to plead for her Jewish people

Phoebe and Priscilla… were servants of the Lord and helpers to the church

Lois and Eunice…who raised Timothy Paul’s protégé in the Christian faith

The Mothers of today are also called to advance the Kingdom of God by the work that we do each day. However, since we live in different cultures the work of the Woman of God in the Old and New Testament will look different from the Woman of God today. We have lives that seem like juggling acts because we wear so many hats and manage so many various responsibilities. We have work schedules, school schedules, exercise schedules, doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, Zoom calls, housecleaning, events to attend and the many other tasks. But we too must learn to balance our lives in a Christlike manner; putting God first. In Luke 12:22,23 it states, “therefore I tell you do not worry about your life what you will eat or about your body what you will wear...life is more than food and the body more than clothes.” In I Tim. 4:8 says, …but godliness has value for all things holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” “Why do we want to have a balanced life? To give the proper time and attention to God’s purpose. We are to bear fruit like the ladies/mothers in the Bible... connecting the church life with our day-to-day tasks. Live by Col. 3:17. God will be pleased.

With the Love of Christ
