Greetings and blessings to all of you. This is Resurrection Sunday. What does the Resurrection of Christ mean to you? It was a milestone in our Lord’s earthly ministry that He prophesied, but the disciples and some of us have difficulty understanding what was actually fulfilled. The disciples hopes and dreams were tied up in Jesus. Their very lives belonged to Him. Can we say that about us? Is Christ not only your Savior but is He Lord of your life? Are you shaped by the Word of God or by the culture? God gave us a dividing line. Jesus said, “take up your cross and follow me” That means that we should be denying ourselves. We must bear whatever load He chooses to give us, and go wherever He chooses to take us. Jesus had to bear the load of our sins; He died on the cross He carried. “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Cor. 5:21) When Jesus died on the day that is called “Good Friday” the disciples experienced profound sadness. They were very discouraged. We can relate when we want something badly. We too have had dreams of the future. We have plans for tomorrow, and a hope for the future. But when life turns out differently than we envisioned, we enter in despair. If you are a follower of Christ, it would not have been a “Good Friday”? Why? Because we are not that comfortable with death...it seems so final. But we are students of the Scriptures and we know that death is not the end….it is the start of the beginning of Eternal Life. The Resurrection of Jesus tells us that only God is powerful enough to shatter death’s defiant hold over mankind. The Resurrection gives us- those who are saved and transformed into the likeness of Christ- eternal hope to a desperate situation. The resurrection is God’s receipt that Christ’s death is sufficient payment for our sin. We will never have to stand in judgement and give account for our sin, because God has forgiven us. All the love of God was displayed on “Good Friday” on the cross. But because of the Resurrection we can experience His love and the certain hope of one day being with Him for eternity. The message of the empty tomb and the risen Savior is one of hope and victory. The empty tomb and the fact that He is seated at the right hand of the Father says Death cannot hold us. Eternal life is ours. Happy Resurrection Day!
