Greetings and blessings to all of you. Can we trust God while suffering? On this DAY OF LOVE, we ask ourselves can LOVE and SUFFERRING coincide? The answer is Yes to both questions. We recognize the existence of a Good God by the horrors of evil and the suffering that follows. And let us not forget in (Isaiah 53:4) “Surely, our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried.” Any time we think about being mistreated or question God’s care for us our thoughts are almost immediately drawn to the book of Job. He endured sickness, the loss of life and property making him ask “Why did I not die at birth?” In the Book of Lament. 5:20 the prophet Jeremiah wrote “Why do you forget us forever? Why do you forsake us so long?” In Hebrews 12 it explains how the Born- Again believer is called “ to run with endurance by looking to Jesus who is the author and perfecter of our faith.” We are united to Christ and are made able and willing to turn our eyes upon Jesus away from ourselves so that by looking to Him we are motivated to a joyful cross- bearing obedience as we walk worthy of the Lord fully pleasing to Him with patience and long suffering and joy described in the book of James that says, “ consider it pure joy my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” For when we take our eyes off our Lord and set our eyes on ourselves the Christian life becomes not only miserable but impossible. King David cried out in (Psalm 13:1-2) “How long O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long will my enemy be exalted over me?” We humans have a tendency to reflect misgivings about God and His love, wisdom, goodness, and His justice. We evaluate God by human standards. We forget that He is the Potter and we are merely the clay. The Word of God says, “who has known the mind of the Lord or who became His counselor?” (Rom. 11:34) In 1 Cor. 2:16 it states “Who has known the mind of the Lord, that he should instruct Him? “The Lord really loves His creatures, however because we are still part flesh we cannot recognize and appreciate His love to the fullest. We should though. Why? Because He died an excruciating painful death on the cross to give us eternal life. Is that proof enough that He loves us …even in our suffering?
