Greetings and blessings to all of you. The world is consistently trying to eliminate God of the Scriptures. Most people want to serve a God of their choice. Most want to be “the God” in his/her life. Under the umbrella of pride is a sin called self- righteousness. It can be defined as one well known author stated “it is a smug feeling of well-being that comes as a result of justifying ourselves. It is that conscious feeling that comes when we are so sure we are right. It is the unconscious feeling when we are not aware of our arrogance. It is a feeling of smug moral superiority.” For sure, we have met others who have admitted to being dishonest, or into pornography or gambling, etc. but will look at us with a straight face and claim they expect to get to heaven because they believe what they are doing is not wrong. There were people in the Bible who were self-righteous. Recall in Luke 18:9-14. The Pharisee said “thank you I am not like other men…”. This Pharisee thought because he did not do the obvious sins which he stated, “robbers, adulterers or tax collector” …he thought he was ‘accepted’ on the basis of
his outward behavior forgetting that God has said in Jeremiah 17:9-10 “the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure Who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind” And Paul known as Saul of Taurus was so wrapped up in his pride and self-righteousness, he sincerely believed it was okay to persecute the church. We had an incident just recently when a group of Progressives felt they could terrorize a Christian congregation in Minnesota. They deal in hate believing they are loving/helping the oppressed (whom they identified as such) like the Apostle Paul before he was changed by the blood of Christ. Christians serve a God of Justice and order. This action was not of God it was anti -Christ and pro-chaos. Let us begin today to recognize when our hearts are lacking humility. When you and I examine ourselves let us look for any and all misplaced trust. For example, your marriage, your car, your job, your education, etc.; look for any behavior that is performance driven. Stop ‘doing’ and just ‘be’. Ask the question... are we excusing ourselves when we are evaluating another person’s behavior? Can we admit when we are wrong? Are we easily offended and quick to defend our position? Let us examine our hearts.
