Greetings and blessings to all of you. Welcome to the New Year. Praise God that He has chosen in His grace and mercy to allow us to see this day. Time is a gift to each of us. The question is what are you doing or going to do with the time that God has given us? Time is collapsing on us. We hear about wars and rumors of war just as the Word prophesied. Earthquakes, droughts, disease, floods, sickness, all are real to us mere creatures. That is why God speaks of the brevity of time in the Word. In Psalm 39:4-5 “Show me O Lord my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life, you have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you; each man’s life is but a breath.” A lot of us spend our time in the market place working long hours, some are sitting long periods of time watching and investing in the stock exchange, hustlers- the homeless are in the city streets, the stay-at-home folks are flipping through social media, and gamers are constantly playing. Some of these folks are worried, anxious, or just eating/sleeping. They say, “I’m doing life.” Some may gain great riches while faking peace/happiness… but where will that ultimately get them? This world and everything in it will one day pass away. God wants us in the time He has given us to fix our eyes on Him. He wants us to fix our eyes on eternity. Why? Meditating on eternity gives us hope. I can put forth my best effort in this lifetime and struggle all my days but like James asked in the Word, “What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” The Bible says in Ephes. 5:16 “Redeem the time because the days are evil”. Meaning…make the most of every opportunity with humility-recognizing our dependence on God. To live with a sense of urgency; to know that we have a purpose to serve and honor God in and for His Kingdom. Not just for our selfish feel-good momentary pleasure but to glorify God our creator our Life-giver. The Bible talks about the prince of the power; the prince of this world which is the devil. The great forces of evil dominated by Satan have been unleashed upon the world that we cannot ignore. However, while God has given us this time in this world we must invest in His Kingdom by using our gifts that He has given us. Jesus said, “as long as it is day we must do the work of Him who sent me….”
