Greetings and blessings to all of you. This is the time to reflect. Who is this Jesus we celebrate every year? In Micah 5:2, “Bethlehem Ephrathah you are small among the clans of Judah. One will come from you to be ruler over Israel for Me. His origin is from antiquity from eternity.” Jesus was born of a virgin. In Luke 1:30-35 the word states, “But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary for you have found favor with God. Listen, you will conceive in your womb and bear a Son and shall call His name Jesus…..The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you. Therefore, the Holy One who will be born will be called the Son of God.” Christians believe in the Virgin Birth of Christ. Why? Because it is essential for the atonement and the redemption of mankind. The Virgin Birth is necessary because of the sin of Adam, our first parent, which descended down through the whole human race, corrupting mankind. Therefore, the atonement for sin had to be pure and without corruption, without guilt- without sin.…Jesus was that someone chosen by the Father (His Father). Jesus was both the Son of Man and the Son of God. He was the infinite God-man, born of a Virgin. Who is this Jesus? He came into the world with the Cross in mind. Since God cannot die, the second person of the Trinity entered into the human race through the virgin womb of Mary, taking on flesh and becoming a man. He did this to offer Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. He was born to die; and He died to rise again. Because of His death, we can live forgiven; and because of His resurrection we can live forever. The God-man came into a dark and suffering world in the form of a man in order to save His own creation; it was a necessity because fallen man was marred in sin. The history of Israel in the OT is the history of a people looking forward to Christmas…that is the arrival of Jesus Christ. John the Baptist assignment was to proclaim the coming Messiah to people who desperately needed a Savior. Isaiah 40:3-5 tells of the plan of God for our redemption. The OT saints waited more than 400 years since the last prophet spoke of His coming. The people then- we are now- waiting for the deliverer God promised. Look at the baby…the cross…the empty tomb…. HE IS HERE. Say Hallelujah 3 times and Have a Merry Christmas!
