Greetings and blessings to all of you. In Psalms 119:68 “Thou art good, and doest good.” God is Good. God is our standard of what is good. All goodness has to be compared with God’s goodness, because He is the only one who is absolutely perfect. Because God is Good what He approves of as being good… is good. But then you may say, ‘If God is all that good why is there so much evil and wickedness in the world?’ God is good …people are not. Remember the fall. Sin entered the world when Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. Eve doubted God’s goodness. Eve thought God was trying to deprive her of something good ..when God told them not to eat of the tree of good and evil but can eat of any other tree. God loves us so He will always give us a choice to obey Him or not. Will you say... God is Good? There are many negative consequences to sin: death, destruction, catastrophic occurrences, hatred, sickness, evil thoughts and injustice. God did not create evil. Evil is the absence of goodness; it is whatever God is not. But God is good. Acknowledging that and understanding that God is going to act toward us in His nature... which is good. Isn’t it reassuring about knowing that you and I have trust in God who by very nature is to be Good and His actions are Good? God expects us to be good and also act in a good fashion. Why? Because we have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of us living His life in and through us. It is a matter of us allowing the ‘goodness of God’ to express himself. We know from the Scriptures that “The Lord is good and His love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:5) Some refuse to acknowledge the goodness of God that is intended to produce Godly sorrow and then turn away from sin. Apostle Paul addressed a Jewish audience regarding their hypocrisy and judgmentalism. In Romans 2:3-4 the Word says, “And do you think this O man, you who judge those practicing such things and doing the same that you will escape judgement of God? Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” The greatest expression of God’s goodness was the cross. You and I being separated from him; his goodness allowed his Son to die in our place. How good is that?
