Greetings and blessings to all of you. In Psalm139:8 the Word says, “If I ascend up into heaven You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold you are there.” God is OMNIPRESENCE. The omnipresence of God is a comfort for us. Why? Because (a) you are never alone (b) there is a constant guidance (c) protection and care (d) accessibility (e) source of strength. Our human concepts are just that.. human. However, when we think of God…we must know that He is Spirit; we think spatially. That is not the way we should think about God. There isn’t any place you could go and not find God. In Psalm 139:1-2 “Oh Lord, You have searched me and known me You know when I sit down and when I rise up You understand my thought from afar” When it comes to anything that is intellectual, or spiritual or of the soul…space, matter, weight, and time have no meaning at all. God is right here. And He will never be any farther away and He cannot get any nearer than He is right now. A theologian has said, “God is not far away in distance, but He seems to be because He is far away in character. He is unlike man because man has sinned and God is holy. The Bible has a word for this moral incompatibility, this spiritual unlikeness between man and God-it is called alienation.” The book of Eph. 2:1-3 explains this alienation. “And you were dead in our trespasses and sins in which you were formerly walked according to the course of this world according to the prince of the power of the air of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.” We are so dis-similar to God that the distance is one of character not space. Since God is omnipresent our character keeps us from realizing God is with us. One of the challenges of the Pastor is to break down those human concepts. The Holy Spirit -our helper-is to get His people so spiritualized that they no longer think in material concepts...that is why we should “die daily”. Again, God seems so far away because God is Holy and we are fleshly/worldly. And the two can never meet unless we “walk in the Spirit thereby not gratifying the desires of the flesh” (Gal. 5:16) It is the heart of man that puts distance between us and God. Habakkuk 1:13, says, “your eyes are too pure to approve evil and you cannot look on wickedness with favor” Jesus said, “God why have you forsaken me” God cannot look at SIN.
