Greetings and blessings to all of you. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers. The Scriptures exalts motherhood. It began with Eve who is the first mother remembered for enticing Adam to disobey God as she did also…then sin entered the world. (Of course, God knew this was going to happen…and Satan always had strategies to thwart God’s plan to redeem His people.) Because we live in a sin tainted world there are all kinds of mothers. There are wicked mothers like Jezebel. Then there are the moms who sell their children. And in our pragmatic selfish and self-centered age motherhood has become a bad taste. Sadly, the stats show this by the large number of battered children each year, the many illegitimate births, the sexually molested that is reported and the biggest lie of our century- that a fetus is not a developing baby…therefore abortions are okay and over millions of abortions are being performed and the baby parts are sold for medical use, etc. They believe God is okay with that. That life begins at conception is the truth but because of the state of the nation where right is wrong and wrong is right ..moms are killing their babies in the womb. Thank God that He is a forgiving God if you come to Him for forgiveness and live in a close relationship as a humble forgiven saint thereafter. But today we must pay honor to some of the greatest moms. Mary the mother of Jesus Christ who was chosen to carry the baby Jesus in times when she could have been stoned to death by this custom of that time. She took on the burden and shame and deep sadness occurred when she saw her son Jesus murdered and tortured. Elizabeth the Godly mother of John the Baptist had characteristic of a mother (just like Mary) that is needed today to navigate in a culture that dishonors what God honors. Elizabeth had a right relationship with her husband Zechariah; she was a woman of prayer. In Luke 1:6 it says “both were righteous in God’s sight living without blame according to all the commands and requirements of the Lord.” She in her old age gave birth and said to the Lord, “The Lord has done this for me. He has looked with favor in these days to take away my disgrace among the people.” Godly Hannah had these qualities when she honored her husband and loved and prayed to God fervently for a child (the Prophet Samuel that she committed to God) …these are just some of the mothers who loved the Lord.
