Greetings and blessings to all of you. Today is Mother’s Day. Some of you are Mothers. All of you had at least a biological Mother and/or you know a Mother. And because we live in a sin infested world many have struggled with infertility, the sorrow of miscarriages and regretful abortions. Broken and sin sick relationships have tainted many of our experiences with our mothers. In the Bible there were lots of mothers, such as Eve, Ruth, Naomi, Mary, Elizabeth, etc. They were human with all the weaknesses that we have…but if we were name characteristics that these ladies had in common it would be faithfulness, patience, prayer and the love and trust in God. Mary was chosen by God for His purpose. She raised Him and watched Him in His ministry work. She saw how the politicians of that day treated Him. She saw how the fickle people would love Him one day then hate Him the next. And she witnessed that awful day when He was hung on a cross and tortured before He died for you and me. Hannah wanted a child but could not. She was ridiculed by her husband’s other wife. In 1 Sam. 1:9-15 it says, “in bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the Lord……. Hannah was praying in her heart and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Her husband thought she was drunk. Hannah reply, ‘ I am a woman who is deeply troubled -I have not been drinking wine or beer. I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. …I have been praying here out of my great grief and anguish.’ Hannah was granted a baby boy; the prophet Samuel. In Judges 13:2-5 the story of Manoah’s wife was chosen to be the mother of Samuel. Her faith was exemplified when the angel of the Lord told her to “see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean…no razor may be used on his head because the boy will be a Nazirite set apart to God from birth and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines.” She obeyed the Lord. Rahab the mother of Boaz who was the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth. Obed was the father of Jesse and he was the father of King David. Our sister Ruth is remembered for saying to Naomi (a follower of Christ) by the faith that she saw in Naomi “where you go I will go and where you stay I will stay your people will be my people and your God my God ..” people of God Trust God while Loving Him recalling the ladies (mother’s)of faith.
