Greetings and blessings to all of you. There is a question we should ask ourselves… to what authority will you submit your heart and life? There a parable in Luke 19 that tells of a nobleman “who went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom….but his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him saying: “ We do not want this man to rule over us.” This is exactly what Adam and Eve said to God. When God told our parents they were forbidden to eat from the knowledge of good and evil. Their disobedience was a rejection and rebellion against God’s authority over them. They in essence said, “we will not have God Himself to rule over us.” The governing authority in the days of Samuel and Saul in the Book of Judges were the Laws of God given through Moses in the first 5 books of the Hebrew Bible. Did they like them? Did they follow them? No! They asked the Prophet Samuel to give them a king. After the prophet consulted the Almighty on their request...God said yes; however, there will be dire consequences for them disrespecting the Lord. That is why as you read the Book of Judges it says in many of its chapters, “there was no king in Israel, and everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” In Romans 2:15 it infers that the law is written on our hearts -our conscience bearing witness to what is right and wrong…therefore doing what seems right in our own eyes is essentially rebellion pure and simple. Who sets the standard for right and wrong? God does. But if we reject legitimate authority chaos and confusion and fear ensues. God gave Adam & Eve authority to rule over creation (Gen.1:28) and with that authority came the responsibility to rule in a manner consistent with God’s revelation of Himself. That same responsibility applies to the delegated authority of civil government; and with this God delegated authority comes the responsibility to rule as God would rule in a manner consistent with His Holy Word. When such a government become corrupt and enter into a form of national rebellion against God… judgement follows. You and I have to follow God’s principles in Holy Scripture. We can no longer follow the dictates of the flesh. We must obey God. Let’s start now.
