Greetings and blessings to all of you. This coming weekend we will be celebrating Independence Day. This time of the year recognizes our forefathers who fought tyranny for their freedom from Britain. To some this holiday means freedom and the memory of all who fought for the U.S. to become the land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. But saints know this..none of this would have been possible without the founding fathers who stood on the principles of God. Were they perfect? No! Did they have slaves? Yes. Did God condone this part of our history? No! However, our focus should not be that but the focus today should be on… that they were sinners just like you and I and they too needed a Savior. When the Pilgrims came to the U.S. they had some definite ideas about God, law and politics. They came from England where freedom of worship was severely restricted. Reacting against formality and the strictness of the “state Church” they firmly intended to establish a country based upon the principles of God. They believed in God knowing He would sustain their “freedom”. If the state were absolute, it would replace God as the supreme lawgiver. So, what did the Pilgrims do? They came to America to establish their right to worship as they please without the State(government) interfering. In the Word of God it provides a perfect illustration reminding us how our nation is similar to that same situation then and now. In 2nd Chron. 15: 3, 5-6 it reads, “for many days Israel was without the true God and without a teaching priest and without law….In those times there was no peace to him who went out or to him who came in, for many disturbances afflicted all the inhabitants of the lands. Nation was crushed by nation, and city by city for God troubled them with every kind of distress.” What was wrong? The same things that are wrong with America today. We have left our First Love. Recall the church of Laodicea. We have compromising pastors who dishonor the Word of God by not preaching sound doctrine. Finally, God removing His restraining hand…turning them over to a reprobated mind. (Romans 1:18-32) Look at our culture…our government have sanctioned “Sodom and Gomorrah”. Saints, we need to begin gathering as a solemn assembly turning away from sin and a turning back to God with all our heart, body and soul.
