Greetings and blessings to all of you. Why government cannot save us is a conversation that we hear since the election is coming to a close on Nov. 5th this year. Christian’s ought to express their political beliefs by voting. It is okay to support legitimate measures designed to correct issues such as same sex marriages, trans gendering little kids, killing babies in the womb, overstepping parental authority, raising taxes to provide for people from open borders and increasing welfare benefits, etc. Not involving ourselves with these political issues would be contrary to what God wants us to do. In Gal. 6:20 “therefore as we have opportunity let us do good to all people especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” It is easy to feel frustrated and disconnected from the political process, to feel like your vote does not matter in the grand scheme of things. These issues are worth fighting for. And it starts with making your voice heard one vote at a time. The future of your children and grandchildren plus the people you truly care about is at stake. These policies that may happen based on the outcome of this election will have an impact from one generation to the next. It appears that our government does not understand Romans 13. That chapter provides us with the clearest picture of a government’s responsibilities as well as the responsibilities of its citizens. Governments are ordained by God for the purpose of restraining evil and promoting what is good. Citizens are to respect the government’s lawful authority so long as it does not compel citizens to behave in such a way that is contrary to God’s commandments and counsel. How should Christians think about the government? Know this.. a government with too much power will not restrain itself from oppressing its people. But a government with too little power will not be able to effectively restrain evil in society and provide order necessary to protect the citizens liberties. Treating government as a savior that will fix all the problems of the human condition creates a false idol and has often led to great crimes against God and man such as Nazism and Communism. But Romans 13 is the government that God want; to guide and instruct the people through just laws. Our liberties under the law exist so that we may have the freedom to do good. A perfect society will only happen when the Kings of Kings returns to reign in justice and righteousness forever….until then vote as Christ would.
