Greetings and blessings to all of you. In light of the upcoming election let us read I King 18:20-21. “So, Ahab summoned all the Israelites and gathered the prophets at Mount Carmel. Then Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If Yahweh is God follow Him. But if Baal follow him. But the people did not answer him a word.” Our society needs a spiritual transformation. Then as now.. many of our morals, virtues, and Christian principles that are consider righteous are continually under attack. Why did the people stay silent to Elijah’s question? We can only speculate. Maybe, because they liked serving Baal. That god gave them what they needed and then left them to themselves. That god (Baal) convinced them that he has been protecting them and feeding them and keeping them alive. So why not keep serving Baal? Also, they did not know about Elijah’s God. They would FEEL insecure serving a God they knew nothing about. We only heard about him through the lower-class people not the upper-class religious people that seem to be happy and content…who seemed to love Baal. Maybe we are still contemplating on who we will choose to lead, guide and direct our lives in the next four years. Joshua said it best in Joshua 24:15 “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers worshipped beyond the Euphrates River or the gods of the Amorites in whose lands you are living. As for me and my family we will worship Yahweh.” We currently have apostasy occurring in our nation. People are worshipping the culture and all it gives them instead of the true God of the Bible. How many have one foot in the church and one foot in the world and they cannot make up their minds whether to fully follow Christ or to seek the things of this world? Like the silent people (mentioned earlier), we Christians have the Bible to learn who God is. It is not Baal. It is not you or the culture. But we choose not to read, study, meditate and share the Word of God with others. If we would do this -we will be protected, we will be provided for, we will feel secure even though the followers of Baal have more items that we could only dream about. Human governments are not a law unto themselves. There is a True God to whom they must answer.
