Greetings and blessings to all of you. God does not overlook even the slightest detail in the universe. Rather He governs the universe in total awareness of everything that is happening within it. Our nation is in an election year. What does that mean for the practicing Christian? Questions come to mind such as…. Can a Christian participate in politics in good conscience? Should we vote for the lesser of two evils? Should we vote at all? Are we sinning when we support flawed candidates? What is a non-negotiable (platform) for a Christian when it comes to politics? Is it the abortion issue…. the transgender issue being taught in grade schools…the open borders allowing terrorist to enter without scrutiny…. dismissive of religious freedoms such as not being able to be foster parents because of deeply held religious convictions or canceling free speech labeling it as hate speech or shredding the Constitution or debt being out of control thereby taxes are higher? What will make us say ENOUGH we must not allow that! In 2nd Timothy 2:25-26 “Gently instruct those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people’s hearts, and they will learn the truth. Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants.” Christians, we can no longer ignore what is happening in our nation. We know God will take care of everything. However, God left us here to be His mind, His heart, His eyes, and His ears and His legs. We are the Body of Christ. We realize that our government cannot save us…only God can. After King Nebuchadnezzar went through his devasting trial and returned to sanity, he said, “His dominion is eternal dominion; His kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him… What have you done? As a Christian we should view political engagement as an opportunity to advocate for policies that reflect God’s truth and advance the common good. Sometimes we can be unconcerned, intentionally become uninvolved or even afraid. We should ask the Lord to show us when we have done nothing, been silent, or failed to respond in the face of evil. Ask the Lord to give us discernment and boldness to address evil with truth seasoned with grace.
