Greetings and blessings to all of you. The filling or controlling of the Holy Spirit is a profound reality in the believers. Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit is a Person. He is not an “it” -He is God. He is the essence of Jesus imparted to believers. It can be difficult to fully explain the Trinity. How can our finite minds take in God who is expressed in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit? It is also difficult to explain the Holy Spirit; however, He can be explained by some of His attributes. The Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit is all powerful. Micah 3:8 said, “I am full of power by the spirit of God.” The Holy Spirit is everywhere at the same time. King David wrote in Psalm 139:7 “where shall I go from your spirit? “or “where shall I flee from your presence?” The Holy Spirit is all- knowing. The Word in I Cor. 10-13 says, “…these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything even the depths of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except the spirit of that person which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.” The Holy Spirit bears witness in the truth of the Gospel. In John 16:13 it says, “When the Spirit of Truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth for He will not speak on His own authority but whatever He speaks and He will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.” Do the Holy Spirit possess you? When you became a child of God, He took up residence by putting His Spirit within you, and as a result you are obedient to Him. Walking in the Spirit is between you and the Holy Spirit. You are now being Spirit led leading you to a new way of living. A true Christian does not receive the Holy Spirit in bits and pieces. You do not have to ask more of the Spirit however you must surrender(die) your life daily moment by moment to be “filled with the Spirit.” Our daily living depletes our tank if you will. So surrendering is a constant. “So walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh” Gal. 5:16
