Greetings and blessings to all of you. Are you content with your lifestyle? Are you experiencing a life of satisfaction? In John 4:1-26 the woman at the well was looking for something. Five husbands and the one she was currently with was not her husband. A song by the late Otis Redding said, “I can’t get no satisfaction (2x) but I tried (3x) but I can’t get no satisfaction.” What did she need? A personal vital relationship with Jesus Christ. This lady had a spiritual need even though she thought she had a physical/emotional need. It is amazing how many people today are trying to find the answer to their deepest needs in people, places and things. Some people think the answer is intellectualism. They think if they can learn more facts on their subject of interest, they will not only gain the status they seek with a title but they will gain that puffed up attitude. But what did God say about that? “Knowledge puffs up but love builds up”. (I Cor. 8:1) Some people even find a satisfaction in eating. The Word has said, “their destiny is destruction their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. (Phil. 3:19) Does that describe you? What about sleeping? Do you find yourself sleeping more and more? Did you know that some people are being slothful? Slothful people tend to sleep too much and happily lie around on the couch. Hebrews 6:12 says, “That ye be not slothful… but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Proverbs 13:4 says, “the soul of the lazy man desires and has nothing but the soul of the diligent be made rich.” Therefore, just like the lady at the well we also find satisfaction in everything but a relationship with Christ. Jesus said to this lady, “whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13-14) Jesus wanted her to give up her religious allegiance to the patriarch Jacob and her relationship with men. Jesus wants her and us to enjoy/worship Him ONLY. If we as a people will seek the living water instead of careers, money, love, sex, security and approval; attempting to fill an emptiness that only a relationship with Jesus can fill... we will be satisfied. These worldly attempts to satisfy our spiritual thirst can only lead to disappointment and despair. Be Content in Christ.
