Greetings and blessings to all of you. This is Memorial Day weekend in the United States. It has been said that this is “home of the free because of the brave”. We must never forget what has happened in the past because we will not recognize when things are about to happen again. This country as well has others have always had enemies. A lot of people are celebrating by doing outdoors activities not considering the bigger picture of what this day means. Christians live in reality. Since the fall of Adam and Eve one thing marked humanity..war and sin. This day calls us to remember the heights from which we as American citizens have fallen. You and I were not there when this nation was established on the blood of many. God’s people did not always emerge victorious in battle they fought. Sometimes the enemy was more powerful. But know this every battle that was won small or huge was only because of God’s intervention. On this Memorial Day weekend, we ask growing mature believers to recall how God our Savior has always been involved. He has said, “The eyes of the Lord run to from throughout the whole earth to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward Him.” (2 Chron. 16:9) American began with Judeo Christian moral values. It has now become a secular humanistic society; with the remnant of Christians hanging at the margins. On this day we think about how God has always worked with the remnant of the faith. During the Civil War there were issues on the table such as now. They argued economic policies and procedures, cultural values, the extent and the over reach of the Federal Government. But the bigger issue was the Abolitionist Movement. It was brewing before the Civil war. The Quakers and the Puritans said NO to slavery in American society. Prior to that the Constitution had initiated and co-signed by some possessing Christians as well as Christians in name only, called the Founding Fathers, wrote “all men are created equal”. So today recall the names of the abolitionist William Garrison, Moses Brown, John Woolman (he closed all his business to fight slavery) and John Brown who said ‘I was an instrument of God’. These men gave their lives for the freedom of others just as Christ did for us. In this day of wanting God to “Bless America” we must (MEMORILIZE) in our minds to trust that God is still in control and conducting His business through us. Matt. 28:19-20
